Project Overview

Elucidating the environment surrounding people in ancient times provides important information for understanding their daily lives and the formation of their populations. In recent years, DNA analysis of organisms other than humans from ancient eras has been advancing. One such field is the growing study of ancient infectious diseases. This study focuses on parasite DNA obtained from coprolites to discuss the existence and expansion of parasites in the prehistoric era, as well as their adaptation to the environment. The relationship between these parasites and human expansion will also be examined. These results will be interpreted in conjunction with the population dynamics of humans themselves, with the aim of gaining an integrated understanding of humans and their surrounding environment.
